Dr. Jay Williams

Virginia Tech Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise

Jay Williams is currently a professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise at Virginia Tech. There, he teaches courses on Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. In 2009, he was named the Virginia Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s inaugural Professor of the Year.  

He has published more than 80 scientific studies on topics ranging from human exercise performance to the cellular and molecular mechanisms of muscle fatigue and has received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health. Most recently, he has been conducting research with the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Virginia Tech and Florida State.

Over the years, Dr. Williams has worked with numerous athletes ranging from kindergarten soccer players to Olympic track and field athletes. Both on and off the field, helping them to improve their athletic performance and succeed in the classroom. He also operates the website Science of Soccer Online which aims to bridge the gap between researchers, coaches and players. And he speaks regularly to local soccer clubs and coaching groups such as US Youth Soccer and NSCAA.
