SESSION OVERVIEW:
This presentation explores the gendered experiences of women working as coaches in the sport of soccer and includes strategies for dealing with the phenomenon typically referred to as the “glass ceiling.” For many female coaches, the limitations blocking advancement in this field are not immediately apparent and lie beneath the surface. It is not necessarily one large obstacle that prevents women who coach from advancing and staying in the sport but rather the cumulative effect of many issues which can be varied and complex. Strategies for how both men and women can improve access to necessary resources such as support, opportunity, and networking will be discussed.
